BRIDE: New Car Or No Wedding.




A 40-year-old-man, Mohammed Abubakar of Hayin Rigasa, Thursday, brought his bride-to-be, Umulkair Ja’afar, before a Shari’a Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, for alleged assault and intimidation.

He told the court that arrangement for the wedding had gone far, when Umulkair told him that he must buy her a car before the ceremony could hold.

He said: “We have started making arrangement of getting married, but she requested that I must buy a car for her before she will marry me.

“I told her that I don’t have the money because I just bought my new car.”

Abubakar further told the court that his inability to buy a car for Umulkair ended the wedding arrangement.

He told the court: “After this development, the woman started sending insulting and intimidating text messages to me.”

He said he had witnesses, who would testify on the issue.

“I have shown them the messages she has been sending to me. I want to bring them before the court to testify,” he added.

The Presiding Officer, Ibrahim Inuwa, adjourned the case to October 18, for the continuation of hearing.

Senator Ndume Contacted Boko Haram Leader 73 Times In One Month Says SSS-PREMIUM TIMES

An embattled Senator, Mohammed Ndume, who is facing charges for alleged links to the militant group, Boko Haram, contacted the group’s spokesperson 73 times within a month, investigators told a federal court on Wednesday. Mr. Ndume was arrested late 2011 by the State Security Service, SSS, and accused of sponsoring the Islamist sect. Mr. Ndume claims his contact with the group was necessitated by his membership of the Presidential Committee mandated to help restore peace to the troubled North East of the country. Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for series of bombings and gun attacks that have plagued Northern Nigeria resulting in more than a thousand deaths. The SSS said Mr. Ndume, who is from Borno State, the hotbed of the crisis, was constantly in touch with an alleged spokesperson of the group, Mohammed Konduga. Mr. Konduga was convicted and is currently serving a three-year jail term. UNITED KINGDOM: 40 Nigerians Repatriated.

Some 40 Nigerians arrived in Lagos on Wednesday in the monthly repatriation exercise, Mr Lawal Isah, Head of Immigration at the Nigerian High Commission in the UK, has said. The repatriation of the Nigerians is jointly organised by the Nigerian High Commission and and the UK Border Agency. Isah told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in London that the returnees were in two categories — those without legal rights to remain in the UK and those who have been repatriated after having served various prison terms. He said two officials of the high commission and the UK Border Agency usually accompanied the returnees. It will be recalled that a similar exercise last month also saw 40 Nigerian being repatriated from the UK and Ireland. (NAN) SOURCE: NAN
